Taking place in the drought stricken 1930's the play deals with a Rancher, his two sons and his daughter who are all battleing the oppressive heat wave as well as their own relational drought. Into their lives comes the con man Starbuck who promises them rain and ends up bringing to the spinterish daughter, Lizzie, new life to her parched heart.
