“Lend Me a Tenor is a door-slamming, mistaken identity comedy. It takes place on the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. The world-famous Tito Morelli (also known as Il Stupendo) is to perform Otello at the gala season-opening benefit performance. Morelli sweeps in too late to rehearse with the company and through a series of mishaps is given a double dose of tranquilizers, causing him to pass out. Thinking Tito is dead, Max, an aspiring singer, steps in to play the part. The comic sparks fly when two costumed Otellos run around in costume chased by two women who think they are with Il Stupendo!
